Eh-heh-heh-heh-heh...

In a dark and desolate place

at the darkest hour

darkness rises...

Stirred to evil

by the Crone of Darethinkle...

witch

Summoning shimmering spectres,

Malevolent ghouls bathed in morbid light,

Faithless souls all fraught with fright...

And so the fox from his lair

with disembodied disquiet

  and deleterious distain

marks with blood all of his domain...

Beware the Night

beyond these walls,

Lest the Darkest One

                       doth seek us all....

Trick or Treat

Make sure you have some delicious cookies on hand.

Ghoulish Biscotti Basic Recipe

¾ cup caster sugar

2 eggs

1 1/3 cups plain flour

1/3 cup self-raising flour

1 ½ cups multi-coloured glace cherries

½ cup blanched almonds

Pre-heat oven to moderate 180 C or 350 F.

Grease baking tray.

Combine sugar and lightly-beaten eggs, add sifted flours then halved cherries and almonds.

Gently knead dough on floured surface.

Divide dough into two logs and place on baking tray.

Bake approximately 30 mintes, remove and cool in tray on rack, approximately 10 minutes.

Reduce oven temperature to 150 C or 300 F.

Use a serated bread knife to cut ½ inch slices, place on ungreased trays and bake a further 30 minutes until crisp and dry. Turn halfway through cooking. Cool on wire racks.

Halloween Decorator Cookies

185g butter, softened

3/4 cup caster sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 egg

2 cups plain flour

Pre-heat oven to moderate.

Using an electric mixer, beat butter, sugar and vanilla until pale and creamy. Add egg. Beat until combined. Sift flour over butter mixture. Using a wooden spoon, stir to combine. Make a log and refrigerate dough approximately 30 minutes before rolling out and cutting with cookie shapes.  Bake for 10-15 minutes until light golden.

This is a great recipe to decorate with icing and sweets once cooled.
